School Athletic Physicals

We have completed another successful program of providing free athletic school physicals to more than 500 middle and high school students in Bay County, with the assistance around 100 volunteers. The event was held on August 5th at the Marina Civic Center. Volunteers were provided a meal (compliments of Sonny's Barbeque, Gulf Coast Medical Center and The Bays Medical Society) and a complimentary athletic event pass for the upcoming school year (compliments of Bay District Schools). The Bay County Health Department and Medical Reserve Corps were on hand to provide immunizations and information about abstinence, drug awareness and other important information to the students, as well as popcorn as people waited.. I-Scream-U-Scream had delicious ice cream treats available, too. Many physicians, health care workers, and community volunteers lent a hand in this combined effort. We thank you all for giving of your time and talents to a project that benefits so many. Thank you!

For anyone who likes to plan for the future, the following items can be considered for donation to next year's program: bottled water, food for volunteers, portable otoscopes, covers and batteries, weight scales, blood pressure cuffs, stethescopes, height charts, hand sanitizer, or cash contributions to offset expenses.

Florida Medical Association's Annual Meeting Wraps Up

The delegation from Bay County just returned from Orlando, where we had great representation from the Northwest Florida Caucus, covering from Escambia County to Leon County. Members may go to the Members Only page (login required) to view the comprehensive report provided by Dr. Jim Cook. This report should be read carefully by all physicians in this area, as there are many key issues that affect you. If you need login information, please contact the TBMS Office.

Executive Director Change

Janice Wells, Executive Director of The Bays Medical Society since May 2007, has announced her resignation, effective at the end of August. The Executive Committee of The Bays Medical Society is actively seeking a replacement for this position and expects a seamless transition.

"I wish to thank all of the wonderful people that have been a part of my life at The Bays Medical Society, at my previous job with Gulf Coast Medical Center, and in the general community. I was born at Lisenby Hospital (now Lisenby Retirement Center) on 11th Street and have family roots in Bay County that go back even before it was called Bay County. I still have family in Panama City and will be back for visits. I have mixed emotions, both anticipation for the new adventures and sadness for the great people and things that I won’t see as often, but I feel this will be a move that will allow me to grow personally and professionally. My hope is that the medical community will remain cohesive and grow stronger to support one another in the noble practice of medicine. Thanks to each of you for all you've done.”

TBMS Office Gets a New Exterior Sign

It's been a long time coming, but we have finally installed an exterior sign, making it easier to find the office. We are still located at 2402 Lisenby Avenue, in Lisenby Court. This is at the corner of Lisenby Avenue and Airport Road, which is just a block north of 23rd Street. Due to limited traffic in the office, the doors are kept locked most of the time. Please call prior your visit. Our mail should still be sent ONLY to our postal address: P.O. Box 574, Panama City, FL 32402-0574.

TBMS President, Dr. Michael Taylor, Recognized by Florida Medical Association

The Florida Medical Association recognized several young, up and coming physicians throughout Florida in their most recent publication of Florida Medical Magazine. We are very pleased that one of our very own, Dr. Taylor, was selected for this spotlight. Click HERE to read the article, which has been provided with permission by the FMA.
